Rachel Cook
When Rachel Cook sees a patient, her goal is always to treat the whole person and not just the disease. This holistic outlook, combined with her extensive experience as a licensed acupuncturist, makes Rachel a wonderful addition to the team at Ravenswood Chiropractic & Wellness Center. Drawing upon her knowledge and expertise, she works to empower and educate her patients so that they can be brought back into a state of balance and well-being.
After earning her B.A. and Dipl. O.M. from the University of Michigan, Rachel went on to complete 4 years of post-secondary education at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. She received her Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine in 2005, was board certified in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and has been helping patients ever since. Because Rachel’s clinical interests span a wide range of issues, she has helped patients with everything from chronic pain and digestive disorders to skin problems, allergies, asthma, insomnia, and facial rejuvenation. She has also treated neck and back pain, with an emphasis on lumbar disc problems, as well as inflammatory joint conditions such as those caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Rachel’s most advanced training and expertise, however, lies in her chosen specialty of infertility and orthopedic disorders. When it comes to orthopedic issues, she uses a multidisciplinary approach of acupuncture, electro-stimulation, cupping, and gua sha. By blending traditional, Chinese-style acupuncture with trigger point therapy and orthopedic acupuncture, she ensures that her patients always get optimal results. And because she recognizes that the stress and urgency accompanying the conception process can be overwhelming, Rachel focuses on helping her fertility patients relax while improving their reproductive health.
This ability to truly treat the entire patient has helped her to successfully address a variety of fertility problems, including irregular and anovulatory menstrual cycles, PCOS, thin endometrial lining, advanced maternal age, endometriosis, and elevated FSH levels. Rachel finds a profound sense of fulfillment in using her skill and understanding to help patients conceive naturally, and has been able to help patients undergoing hormone therapy, IUI, and IVF to successfully conceive as well. By tailoring her treatment plans to address each patient’s individual needs, she is able to incorporate acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Eastern nutrition, and lifestyle advice in whatever combination will be most effective.
Though Rachel finds an enormous degree of satisfaction in her daily interactions with patients, she also thoroughly enjoys her downtime and spends much of it pursuing her other passions, such as cooking. Her focus on health and wellness has most recently led her to explore gluten-free cuisine, and she now makes a really great paella that is both paleo and gluten-free.
