Chicago Chiropractic Center Helps Many Patients get Headache Pain Relief
One of the most common types of headaches, myogenic/cervicogenic headaches can be sourced to a problem in the neck – although the pain from these headaches is not necessarily focused there.
The word ‘cervicogenic’ refers to the cervical spine area or the portion of the spine supporting and comprising the neck. In terms of headaches, although there are 7 cervical vertebrae (or bones in this portion of the spine), it is strictly those “muscles, joints, and ligaments of the upper three cervical segments,” says the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, that “have been shown to be capable of causing headaches.” In addition, the other bones, membranes, and blood vessels supporting the neck (or, respectively, the posterior cranial fossa, dura mater, and vertebral artery) that can be responsible for headaches.
Myogenic / Cervicogenic Headaches Respond Well to Chiropractic Care
Because chiropractors are specially trained to analyze and correct subluxations (or slight dislocations and misalignments of the vertebrae) and related tissue damage, these types of headaches respond well to chiropractic care.
“Trauma to the cervical spine has been found to be one of the most important factors in the causation of headaches….Repeated strain or minor injury to the neck may be all that is necessary to precipitate the headache.” – (Braaf MM, Rosner SJ. Trauma of the cervical spine as cause of chronic headache. Trauma. 1975; 15: 441-446).
At Ravenswood Chiropractic & Wellness Center located in Andersonville, Chicago, we have helped many patients overcome cervicogenic headaches.
